We were building a commercial building next to a farm machinery company. They had a cow dragging a steel wheel with calf at foot, keeping the grass down between the rows. We had just poured the large floor before the layers took off to the pub for lunch. I returned an hour or so later to find a very upset owner – “We've all been looking for you and your layers". No mobile phones in those days. I checked the floor, and there was the cow, the large steel wheel and the calf wandering throughout the freshly laid floor, dropping lots of cowpats along the way. Luckily, one of the layers returned to get his smokes, looked with horror at the sight, and rushed off to get the team to try to remedy the job. The floor had a bit of a dip in the middle after that.
